Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found plenty of engaging indie games. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is actually a piece of poop attempting to travel to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: you only need a single jump button. Throughout numerous stages, battle boss fights and visit a market to acquire outfits for your poop character.
Execute your actions precisely, as a wrong move requires restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to launch your character upward, cross fragile surfaces, and interact with buttons to reveal hidden paths. Gather currency to purchase challenging stages where gameplay gets crazy.
In terms of design, the experience shows off vibrant stages and an amazing soundtrack. The retro visual style of morphing basic polygons could recall fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although difficult to think of previous releases where you are a piece of feces, interactive entertainment frequently featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as soil enrichment. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, like taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on PC this November.
